Low Country, also known as Tidewater, homes are often raised to rest on a high crawlspace or pier foundation, to protect them from flooding in coastal areas. Floor plans are usually rectangular, with a central entrance that leads to a traditional hall-and-parlor floor plan, though modern designs most often have open floor plans. Typical features of the Low Country home are a large shady porch (often wrapping around the house), a steeply-pitched hipped roof, and abundant windows.
